The Yamaha RX-V385 is an affordable, well-designed AV receiver with fantastic output and various preset modes. The receiver comes with the YPAO function to measure the depth of field of audio speakers and improve sound quality. The 385 model allows input from banana plugs for all 5 channels, whereas the 383 model is only compatible for 3 channels. The unit does not have a zone 2 output. It does come with a mic for room acoustics analysis, and a switch to shut off the speaker output when headphones are being used. The receiver is compatible with a variety of cable and speaker options, but requires a powered subwoofer if desired. Some customers have noted a learning curve for the remote, but overall the Yamaha RX-V385 is easy to set up and provides excellent sound quality at a reasonable price point.
